Back to school season is a time some of us either dread or get excited about. The thought of waking up early and having to sit in school or classes for a long time sounds dreading but some of us like to buy clothes for back to school and miss seeing our friends every day. College is a different ball game, the thing about college is that you're not used to anything and this is all new for you. You're used to being the big dog in high school and knowing everybody, now you're back at the bottom of the food chain. But that's alright, this post is dedicated to our oblivious newcomers that may need a helping hand coming into their first year of college.
Remember why you're here
It's cool to let loose and have fun in college but remember why you're here, to get an education and in the long run receive a degree. One thing I tell myself all the time is that college ain't cheap. Remember to focus on your academics and try not to skip classes because you are paying hella money to go to college. Going out and hanging out with your friends is cool, give yourself some free time but don't forget why you're enrolled in your university.
Time management is essential
Going to college things may get a little complicated for you especially because you're on your own. It's nothing to be scared about but you're just going to have to get used to doing certain things like waking yourself up for a class or remembering you have a meeting with your Biology professor at 2 o'clock. In college you have to become better at managing your time therefore, your calendar and planners will be very beneficial to use.
Be cautious about your packing
Packing for college is pretty hectic because, on some real shit, you're not going to know what to pack. I overpacked my first year of college and coming back home to unpack, my bedroom was a mess. The best piece of advice I could give about packing is to make sure you pack depending on the season and how long you're going to be at school. Say for example you go to school in August and you plan on taking a trip back home in September, you can take certain clothes back home and you can bring clothes back to school.
Shower shoes in the bathroom
If your school have a community bathroom or if you have roommates and you share a bathroom with them make sure you have shower shoes when you're going to take a shower. Just to be safe. You don't know the last time that shower was clean and you don't know what the last people that had used these showers were doing. Moral of the story, don't let your feet come in contact with the bottom of that shower floor. You can get some good shower shoes from Bed Bath and Beyond
Buy textbooks for cheaper prices
Buying your textbooks at your school's bookstore is a SCAM!!! Just kidding it's just more expensive. I recommend you to figure out what books are needed for your classes and then order them online. Some good places you can order your schools textbooks is Amazon and Chegg.
Call your parents
It's easy to get caught up in your college life. The academics and freedom can be a lot to handle and sometimes you might forget to give your parents a call. Don't forget to check up on your parents and see how they're doing and while you're at it, give some other family members a call, they might just send you a couple of dollars. Just remember that time doesn't slow down for anyone so, reach out to your family members and remind them that the phone works both ways.
I hope some of these tips are useful for you guys as you make your way into college. Make sure you guys like this post and good luck!
